These are hard times for lots of people– all over the world. From Australia to Zambia, young and old alike are finding themselves down and out… many without any hope. How does this happen, particularly here in the land of the free and the home of the brave? How can we bring healthy change… and hope?
As an international student, you came to the US to pursue your dream of a better education. For many, you desire to eventually find a career that will help make the world a better place. Others have less altruistic goals and desires and want to help their family and/or themselves. These are all noble dreams, worth pursuing. But for some, the dream becomes a nightmare they cannot escape.
Strong families are essential, providing a safety net to cushion a fall. Caring communities are also important, particularly for those who are alone. Strong governments can help, but they are not the answer. In my opinion, it really comes down to people loving others and treating them as they would want to be treated. In the Bible, we call this the golden rule, but the concept can be found in most religions and cultures.
ISC is here to help you pursue your dream. Peruse our website and see how you can become part of our caring community. Take part in one of our community service events where we help others less fortunate. We encounter many international students that can’t believe we are willing to help them… for free. We feel we have been blessed by God so we want to bless others. Don’t let pride and/or prejudice stop you from accepting change… we all need it.
So True!]
