Christmas is an annual and widely observed holiday celebrated by millions of people all around the world. Generally celebrated on December 25, it is the day when Jesus Christ was born. Both Christians and non-Christians alike celebrate the happy holiday that is characterized by decorations, Santa Claus, feasts and gift giving. Jesus is considered to be a present from God to Mankind, one of the most beautiful and inspiring events of all time. This is the focus of Christmas.
It’s easy to turn away from the true meaning of Christmas and look at he decorations, gifts to one another, festive foods and more. There are some glorious songs written about the Christ in Christmas (think Handel’s Messiah) that wonderfully celebrate the spritual truths documented in the Bible. There are also silly songs about Santa and snow. This year, more than ever, we need to be inspired with truth that brings hope for all people (read Luke 2). Our news feeds have been full of bad news… but the Bible tells of God making good His promise to bring Good News that will be for all people.
As we wrap up 2020, let’s be sure to unwrap the gift given to us over 2000 years ago. There’s no need to wait until Christmas day, begin now to read the Bible and hear what the angel said “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you: He is the Messiah, the Lord.”
